For everyone reading Lily and Dunkin, and arguably for everyone, this video delivers a powerful message of support for the transgender community.
Filmed 7 months apart, this moving cover of the song “HOME” features Ruby, before she began hormone treatments, singing the female part and Charlie, 7 months into his hormone treatments, singing the male part.
Not only is this a beautiful duet, but it is also a moving tribute to the love and support Charlie received during his transition. The video is an excellent addition to a Lily and Dunkin discussion or to help students understand Transgender students.

It explans that transgenders are like evrey one eles an they have feelings to

Wow! I love the two voices of the same person! Everyone should feel at home in their own body. We all evolve throughout our lives, figuring out who we are. I'm glad Charlie can finally be his true self.
ReplyDeleteI think it's good that someone made a song as a tribute to transgender people
ReplyDeleteit explains that transgender people are like everyone eles
ReplyDeletei enjoyed the video beacause two people coming together to show that anyone going through struggles can get through it just like those people did
ReplyDeleteKara, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. However, you misunderstood. Both people in the video are the same person. The female voice is Ruby before she had hormones to become Charlie. Charlie is the male voice. He is now Charlie. The video producer was very clever to join the two parts together to make one video.
DeleteI thought the same because there was such a change between the person when she was transgender, I thought that he/she was two different people
DeleteI think it's amazing how Charlie was able to transition from Ruby. I believe everyone should feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. The video had a great concept; how at first Ruby sang the female end and 7 months later Charlie was singing the male part. - KL ❥
DeleteAmazing, I didn't realize they were the same person, thanks for posting this.
DeleteThanks so much for sharing Mr. Mills. It is powerful and it is something I certainly plan on sharing this with my class as we work our way through "Lily and Dunkin." We'll be sure to share some of our thinking around it once we do. Everyone deserves to feel safe, to feel home.

It explains that people that are different can see the world the same and have the same feelings as everyone else
ReplyDeleteI like this video because it shows how transgender people are the same as any one else
ReplyDeleteI liked this because how he use to be a girl and 7 months later he comes back and shows that he was the same as he was befor
ReplyDeleteI feel like this song explains that if you are transgender you are home and included in everything other people do and that you have the right to change your life and gender. Also to talk to someone if you don't know what to do or feel uncomfortable about yourself.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the concept of the song/video because it shows that transgender people are just like females/males. They are still human and deserve to be treated like what they are. I think that it's great that Charlie transitioned from Ruby to himself. -HB
ReplyDeleteThis song is very meaningful and I think that nobody is different.
ReplyDeleteThis video is very powerful. You can see the same person in 2 bodies. I like this video because it shows how a person can feel completely different on the inside and you would have no idea this is why you should should never judge them by there smile.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good video because it helps you understand that you should be comfortable as who you really are and you should be proud of who you are.
ReplyDeleteThis video reminds me of my old friend that was transgender but people took her a geek and that made me so mad. Treat transgender people the same as regular people. Because they are.
ReplyDeleteThis video is very meaningful, it means that anyone can be any gender they want.
ReplyDeleteThis Song represents Ruby before she became Charlie 7 Months later its a good duet with the same person but it's amazing
ReplyDeleteIt means that transgender people are the same as other people just a little different we all have the same feelings
ReplyDeleteThe video is about acpeting people for who they are and the different stages they had to do to be the self I bet it's not easy so for you to look at them and and say ew you don't know what they did to be happy or be the self
ReplyDeleteI feel like the video relates to Lily and Dunkin because it shows that it doesn't matter who you are, whether you're black, white, gay or transgender, that you still matter. That you still have an opinion, and that you still have feelings. Honestly, I think it's just like whether or not you're short or tall. Just because you may be different than someone else, doesn't mean you don't matter.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a cool idea! Why do you think that this particular song was chosen by Charlie? How does it relate to his life?
ReplyDeleteWe talked about this. We thought the song choice was very deliberate. The song fit just like Charlie's body finally fit who he felt he was. Charlie finally felt at HOME in his body.
