We're looking forward to hearing from you! Let's keep coming back to meet here while we read Lily and Dunkin. Read about what other classes are doing and join the conversation. Let's get started! Leave us a comment to answer these questions:
What do you think this book will be about? Why do you think that?
This book has led to some deep conversations about gender identity and personal pronouns
ReplyDeleteWe agree, we have had some great conversations about kindness, inclusiveness and acceptance.
ReplyDeleteThis book is about 2 kids who are different than some kids so the other kids don't include them in some things

We all want to belong. Why don't some kids include others who are different, when they know they wouldn't like it if people didn't include them?
ReplyDeleteI think this book is about 2 people that want to change something about themselves and some people just have to agree on what they want to be👍🏻
ReplyDeleteWe agree, we think those traits are important to learn and have. - KL & HB :)
ReplyDeleteI think this book is about a boy that wants to be a girl and has some you know don't be a girl and be a girl mind comments but during the story her mom calls her Lily and brightens up her life a bit more
ReplyDeleteWE MADE DONNA GEPHART’S WEBSITE!!!
ReplyDeleteLily and Dunkin has a great message of gender equality and acceptance, especially accepting yourself for who you are.
While reading the book we had some visualizations that we wanted to share. Some of the drawings we were able to come up with were Dunkin playing basketball, Lily hanging out with Dare, and even some of Bob the tree. We used paper that mimicked an instagram post, captioning our posts with the perspective of the character we were writing as. An example was “What should Lily wear? Should she be safe and wear the boy clothes or should she start fresh and wear the girls?” along with a visual of both her choices. We were overjoyed at the fact that the author of the novel, Donna Gephart wanted to have some of our drawings on her blog.
